My Dell 8250 (running WindowsXP Home Edition) was
recently exposed to the Blasterworm virus and has since
been cleared and the WinXP patch installed. However,
prior to the infection, I was able to watch DVD's on my
PC using PowerDVD 4.0 or InterActual Player. After the
virus was eliminated, I keep getting a format error
F6F00018. I called Dell support and after testing the
DVD drive to see if it would recognize a regular CD
(which it did), we found that my DirectX folder had no
files in it. They directed me to download DirectX 9.0b
from the Microsoft site which I did...twice. Each time
it finished downloading and then tried to install the
components but file "framedyn.dll" was missing and the
application failed.
Question 1: Is DirectX the interface that is required in
order for PowerDVD to play my DVD's? Question 2: How
can I get the missing "framedyn.dll" file? Question 3:
How can I reinstall the application when it doesn't
appear in the DirectX folder under "Program Files"?
Thank you for your time.
