I use Windows Commander, a free download from

http://www.ghisler.com/

I search for all files of a particular type - like all .avi or .bmp files on
all drives - then sort them by size - the duplicates stand out in the list
and you can delete the ones you don't want.

An image viewer performs quite fast as a duplicate or lookalike finder
