View Full Version : Taskbar hangs

I haven't been able to associate it with any particular
program or sequence of events, but my Task Bar
periodically "hangs" for several minutes. The Quick-
Launch icons don't respond to a mouse-over or click, nor
can I navigate to different program windows with the mouse.

After several minutes, things seem to suddenly clear up,
and life is again wonderful. Any help?

Typically, this is because some process is eating up all of your CPU cycles.
If you open up the task manager, the next time it happens you should be able
to go to the Processes tab and see what process is using up all of your CPU
time. Task Manager, by default, runs with high priority, so unless your
cycles are being eaten by something with real-time priority the task
managers' threads should be scheduled to allow you to view this information.

Tried it, nothing looks out of the ordinary, but the
taskbar still won't respond. I actually have to reboot
one or more times before it magically "fixes" itself.

Great work, Bill. I wonder if Linus needs another convert.

>the mouse works fine. The operating system just seems to
be out to lunch, 'cuz it won't even acknowledge the
Windows Start key. Task Manager is no help, either. I
sometimes have to reboot one or more times before the
problem "fixes" itself.
