On my old Compaq Laptop I could select something by
tapping my finger once or twice on the touchpad, and now,
with my new Compaq 2100 Laptop I can only select things
using the buttons below the touchpad. Is there any way to
set up the computer so that I can select using the
touchpad??
Ill appreciate any help someone can offer...
Thanks
Ashley

Hi Ashley,

Touchpad settings can often be controlled via the Mouse applet in the
Control Panel, or there may be a program installed accessible through the
start menu by the maker of your touch pad (Alps, Synaptics, etc.) that will
let you tweak the settings to your heart's content.

If you don't find what you're looking for already on your computer, go to
the Control Panel, double click the System applet, go to the Hardware tab
and click Device Manager. Expand the Mouse option and find who manufactured
your touchpad.

If it was made by Synaptics, then you can download their latest driver from
http://www.synaptics.com/support/downloads.cfm#drivers

If it's an Alps, that's a little trickier, as they don't have driver
downloads available on their website.

However more likely than not, it is a Synaptics pad. HP hid their drivers
for the touchpads, but here are two versions you can try. If the first one
you try works, great! If not, just uninstall it and try the other.

The first:

The second:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locBasepartNum=35051&lang=English+%28US%29&locale=en_US

Please let us know how it works out and please feel free to ask any
additional questions that come to mind!
