Hi,
Boot a Win9x startup floppy and load CD support. Run the winnt.exe file from
the \I386 folder to start setup.

Well ... it didn't work ... I downloaded
the "WinXP_EN_PRO_BF" extractor file ... then extracted
it to the 6 floppies ... tried to boot from the first one
and got an "I/O ERROR" message. I downloaded /
extracted / made floppies on a different computer than
one that's dead ... does that make a difference?

Hmmm ... good suggestion ... one problem ... I got rid of
all those old 9x boot floppies when I upgraded to XP.
Any other ideas? Thanks.

Use boot floppies. Don't forget to load smartdrive. Details for performing
a clean install and obtaining boot disks can be found here:
