View Full Version : Strange entry in source path

I was going to run sfc /scannow and I kept getting the message
to insert the XP CD. After checking the drive and the disk I
went to the registry and found the source path stating
c:\windows\temp\~WZS1A69.TMP....This is strange,
because it should have been D:\. Has anybody got a clue
why this happened or what could have put it there? No
viruses, no worms, no spyware......
TIA

Not really, but you may also want to check the path here as well for SP1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Setup.

In the right pane, change the value of ServicePackSourcePath accordingly.

Thank you for the reply:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Setup. __this is where the mystery showed up__
Is there another source path that I should be made aware of?

You are welcome, Frank. My point was to check both:

SourcePath
ServicePackSourcePath

FYI:
I changed the SourcePath back to D:\
The ServicePackSourcePath was not changed.
This was a no go I had to run a install repair.
However I then was able to reproduce this error
by reusing a app called driver cleaner/cab cleaner.
The cab cleaner was the culprit. I learned my
lesson in MSDOS 5.0 using Norton. I don't
know why I keep trying these Utilities and
expect different results. (always a catastrophe)
Thanks again
