Well ... it didn't work ... I downloaded
the "WinXP_EN_PRO_BF" extractor file ... then extracted
it to the 6 floppies ... tried to boot from the first one
and got an "I/O ERROR" message. I downloaded /
extracted / made floppies on a different computer than
one that's dead ... does that make a difference?

Either the download is bad, the floppies are bad, or the computer is having
problems with the floppy drive. Since this isn't part of your original post,
that's about the best I can do, since I have no idea what the original
problem was.
