I have a hp deskjet 895cse...I upgraded from W98 to XP
about 6 wks ago. I've spent many hours (not exagerating
at all) on the phone w/ HP, & Microsoft. I've changed
the drivers, I've tried even the driver for
W2000...nothing works. Prints either 1/4 to 3/4 of the
documents...and I can't print any of my pictures (jpeg's)
no matter what program I try using. I'me very frustrated
to say the least...any help would be greatly
appreciated :)

how much RAM does the PC have? How is it connected? how many percent and MBs
of the HD is free and how othen do you defrag?
If parallel conected: is the cable marked with IEEE 1284 compliant?

Printing only part of a page is almost always a sign of corrupted printer
drivers and this often happens when a printer is left connected during an
upgrade of an operating system. The best solution is either to do a clean
install of the operating system, or to disconnect the printer during the
upgrade and install it after the upgrade has successfully taken place.

What I suspect is happening is that you are not totally uninstalling the
printer, and XP is simply re-finding the corrupted drivers. Let's try a
complete uninstall and reinstall and see if it helps.

There are three separate steps and all three must be complete for XP to
'see' the new drivers.

Disconnect the printer.

Go into the Control Panel, Add/Remove programs and uninstall any printer
software.

Then go to Printers & Faxes and right click and delete your printer.

Reboot the PC. Do NOT reconnect the printer. Go back to Printers & Faxes
in the Control Panel and from the toolbar, select File, Server Properties.

In the drivers tab, delete all the entries for the printer.

Reboot the PC. Do NOT reconnect the printer.

The drivers for this printer are included on the XP CD, so use the Add
Printer Wizard to install the printer and it should now install the XP
drivers and forget all about the old 98 drivers.

Follow the instructions from the Wizard and only connect the printer when it
tells you to do so. Is it feeling happier now?
