Spooler SubSystem App problem

I am suddenly unable to do ANYTHING relating to printing
on either of two printers. When I boot up, I get the
message "Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem
and needs to close." When I try various things, I also
get "The print spooler service is not running." Any
ideas? Of course, I was trying to print my tax forms at
the time... :-(

thats exactly whats happening to me and from what I can see a bunch of
people.
I cant print either and cant understand the problem. I have tried
everything microsoft has said to fix it and nothing works.
