I have got windows xp it is about a year old with 40GB and 256 memory. I
asked the guy who built it for me to up the memory by another 256 but having
done that the PC would keep switching off and warning windows would appear
to say the PC was not working Properly. I had the extra memory removed and
now all is well, but why will the PC not take extra memory?
Thank Pete.

Greetings --
It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module be compatible
with both the motherboard and any other RAM module(s) in the system.
Additionally, there are sometimes jumper switches on older
motherboards that need to be reset for the new RAM configuration.
Consult your motherboard's manual.
