If windows works ok when you take the extra memory out
then there can really only be two issues. Either your
motherboard doesn't support 512MB of memory, which is
doubtful as your machine is only 12 months old or, as i
suspect, the new memory module is either faulty or not
compatible. I suggest you either get the memory tested,
by getting it returned to the shop it was purchased at
and/or try different memory sticks until you get the
right one.
One thing you could try is removing your old memeory
stick and inserting the new one in its place and see if
the problem re-occurs.
