View Full Version : New Hardware Wizard comes up after every reboot

I recently dumped my Lexmark printer for a new Epson due
to highway robery of the ink cartridges used in the
Lexmark. I got a little carried away removing Lexmark
drivers - after I removed lexbce I could no longer
print. So I reinstalled XP Home Ed. Now, every time I
reboot, the USB connected Epson C42UX printer comes up,
but gets discovered 2 more times. Every time I reboot,
the New Hardware Wizard says it found "Printer". I've
tried uninstalling the Epson drivers and reinstalling
with no luck, even remove the USB devices and no luck.
Printing works fine, but every time I reboot and login, I
have to cancel 2 more new hardware wizards. I've even
humoured them and installed the Epson driver two more
times. Reboot, and guess what? Two more printers are
discovered! Help!
..

Thanks for the tip, Hal, but I saw that one
too and the Epson support people pointed it
out as well. If I follow the device install
thru with the default to automatically configure
the printer, it fails and despite the check
box checked for don't ask again, it always comes
back twice after each reboot. If I take the
alternate route and choose a driver, same thing
two more pop up after each reboot. It's an
infinite loop!
