I originally installed Windows XP (D:) as a dual-boot
with Windows98 (C:). I would like to remove dual-boot
and go only with Windows XP. How would I do this?

First backup your important data in C:\ and in the Windows XP, delete all
windows 98 folders in the C:\. and then click start-run, input msconfig, and
then click boot.ini tab, click "check All Boot Paths", and then click OK.

this is not a good way but it's a saft and easy way.

another better way(a little bit difficult):
first backup your important data in C:\, in Windows XP, double-click my
computer, open my computer, and click "tools"--"folder options"--"View" tab--
Click: "Display All Files", and Clear the "Hide Protected Operation System
Files (Recommend)"check box. and then click ok.

double click Volume_Name(C:\), to explorer the files in the C:\ partition,
copy three files: boot.ini, ntldr, ntdetect.com to a safe foler in other
partitions. and go back to "My Computer", right-click C: and click Format,
Microsoft recommends you to format the partitions as a NTFS partition if
there will be only one OS(WIndows XP) in your computer.

After you format it, copy those three files (boot.ini, ntldr, ntdetect) to
C:\ again.

then, click start--run--msconfig--BOOT.INI tab, click "Check All Boot Paths"
and after your computer checked the boot paths, click ok and back to system.

Either method above is OK.
