Possibly a driver problem. Right click on the flagged
item and select uninstall. After they have been removed
go to the top of the device list and right click that.
The menu option is search for new hardware. Click this
and allow xp to search again for the hardware.
With your modem it maybe that xp doesn't have a suitable
driver. The modem usually comes with a floppy disk
containing drivers. Try inserting this to see if this
will correct the problem. Failing that you might try the
hardware wizard, select modem and then select standard
modem driver from the list (if you use 56k it will be
standadrd 56k modem driver). This may get you working so
you can check your modem manufacturer's web site to see
if a new driver is available. If your modem is an
external USB one, then unplug the usb and connect using
the parallel port cable provided with your modem.
Standards moden drivers will not run usb modems, they
need to be coinnected to a parallel port.
Hope this helps
