I bet there's not many questions about the floppy drive.

As long as one doesn't go past the floppy disk limit size, is there a limit
on "how many" files can be copied to a floppy disk? XP Pro, 3.5 floppy
drive.

There's a limit in the root folder--512 entries (entries, not
files, because files and folders with long filenames use multiple
entries).

100 files in the root directory of a floppy, no limit in
sub-directories, total capacity will limit number of files.

computer ok depending on what you are coping . jeff hayes

Hi Ken,

I'm not clear on what you mean by entries. Could you explain that a little
more about the difference between entries and files/folders please? Thanks,

Anthony

Hi Jim:

I noticed when the floppy was reaching close to 80 files is when things
started to get interesting. That makes since, because the total files I
needed on the floppy was 140 and in the root directory.

Thanks, Anthony

That was one of the things I learned years ago with DOS.

You can make a directory A:\files and then put as many files
(subject to total clusters available and ultimately space
available). You can put a path command so a file in
A:\files will be found with a A:\ (root)

Sure. It's one entry per file or folder, except when the file or
folder has a long name (more than 8.3). If it has a long name, it
takes multiple entries (i. e., it's treated as if it were
multiple files).
