View Full Version : Epson color 880 printer errors

I'm receiving "document failed to print" error messages,
and the printing stops whenever I print from Win-XP Pro.
This happens every time there is a color graphic or
picture involved. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the
updated drivers for the parallel connected printer, I've
let XP find the printer via plug and play, but color docs
never completely print. I still have Win-98B on my
system, and the printer works fine when I boot to that
environment, but it seems to have a communication problem
with XP. It also does not work when I connect to a USB
port.

Can printers be used in both the Win-XP and Win-98
environments, or do I have to remove the drivers from Win-
98 in order for it to work in Win-XP?

Please HELP!

I would uninstall your printer (completely) and reinstall using the XP
drivers from the Epson website.

Disconnect the printer from the PC.

Go to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and if there are any software
programs listed for the Epson printer, highlight and select
Uninstall/Remove.

Go to the Control Panel, Printers & Faxes and right click on the Printer.
Select Delete/Uninstall.

From the Toolbar, select File, Server Properties and look in the Drivers
tab. Highlight and Remove any drivers for the printer.

Reboot the PC. Do NOT reconnect the printer.

Download the new drivers (and status monitor) from the Epson website.

Install the drivers and only connect the printer when the software tells you
to do so.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have tried this over and over again with no
success. I have even removed reference to Epson 880 printer from the
registry before I re-installed. I downloaded the drivers again thinking
there was an error when I downloaded. I am convinced that the updated XP
drivers that Epson has posted for download on it's website are flawed.
Epson's online tech support gives the same recommendation, to reinstall
drivers, then they suggest I phone them to resolve the issue ($10.00 per
call, the printer is out of warranty), as if paying money will solve the
problem. Their intention, I believe, is to sell tech support info because
they know the drivers are flawed.

Do you have an Epson 880 running on Win-XP? If so, does yours work? Should
I remove the Win-98 drivers in the Win-98 environment, or can both OS use
separate drivers for printing? I have both Win98 and WinXP on my system to
keep running programs that refuse to run in WinXP
