Trying to get XP Pro to add a printer. The "Add Printer"
command does not respond, nor does the File - Server
Properties -- command.

I am unable to add any printers, nor to see any printers
that are connected [one HP 882C connected to USB port,
and one HP 6 connected to parallel port.

The USB port will print from Windows programs, even
though the Icon doesn't show up in the printers section
of the Control Panel.

The parallel printer will print only from old DOS
programs which I still use. It does not show up in the
control panel either.

Any ideas? Thanks,

Bill Farren

Is the printer spooler running?

From the command prompt, type

net start spooler

(and hit enter!)

Now try again with the Add Printer Wizard.

The command to "start spooler" indicates that the spooler
is already running.

I had never seen that site before, but I just ran the
diagnostics. It reported no problems, and that the driver
is the current driver.

The printer works, but does not show up in the list of
printers in the XP printer screen. Nor can I add any
printers, because the "Add Printer" command does not work.
