I am trying to install windows XP pro; getting an error
message: need to contact microsoft and get a replacement
CD. Cannot get into online support because it requires a
product #, which you access through windows XP. If it is
not installed, how do you get this number???

While it is possible the problem is the disk, if you have your previous
operating system, you might try reinstalling that, then place the XP CD in
the drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System
Compatibility," the report it generates may give a clue as to the source of
the issue.
Knowing your method and manner of installing as well as what error messages
you are receiving might help us help you as well.
