View Full Version : Notification of Received FAX

I successfully set up the FAX program, but I'm having
trouble with notifications. The first time I ever
received a FAX I saw a pop up window, but no more.
Somehow I closed that down and now the only way I have is
to check the files daily.
Can someone help me with this please?
Thanks,
Michael

Have you applied SP1?

I downloaded all fixes to the OS from Windows Update. Am
I correct in assuming that Windows Update would prompt me
to install SP1? Is there a way I can check?
Thanks,
Michael

If you open the Fax Console and go to Tools > Fax Printer status, what do
you see?

I see a frame to the left with FAX at the top, followed by subfolders
Incoming, Inbox, Outbox and Sent Items. In the frame to the right and in
Inbox I see the eight faxes I received. By checking the dates received
I can tell if I have a new fax. When I select TOOLS and then Fax
Monitor I see that it's ready to send and receive faxes, which is what
I want. I checked the box that said Keep this dialog visible at all
times, but I'm unable to minimize it, I can only Hide it or click the
red X. The events list is blank. I don't know if anything will show up
in the events list when a fax is received because I can't minimize it
and wait and to see what happens. I would have expected that this Fax
Monitor could be minimized and made visible or not in the tray when
active, as other I can do with other programs.

Please read my post again. I asked what you saw when you invoked Tools > Fax
Printer Status... while in the Fax Console.

I see Fax Printers Status, with Fax Printer as Local and Status as Online.

Then you have discovered a new problem. Can you remember the steps to
reproduce it? What did you change when just before the Fax monitor
disappeared?

I wanted to either hide or close the display, and "don't ask me anymore"
I *think* was checked by default. I was quick to click and figured the
notification would be available to me if I changed a setting later.
Since XP was brand new to me the windows weren't familiar, but I'm almost
sure it was the Fax Monitor I was looking at. Now my only option is to
'close' the Fax Monitor window. At least it's 'ready' to receive, which
it must be at all times here. It looks like a 'minimize' option isn't
being displayed.
