View Full Version : Mirroring with Norton Ghost - Problems?

I'd like to add a USB external hard drive to my system, and then use Norton
ghost to make a restorable image on it. I've heard of two potential
problems:
1. After a disk crash, when a replacement drive is installed, you run into
activation problems when you reload the image.
2. Nortopn Ghost somehow screws up the ability to establish and maintain
restore points.
Any truth to these? Comments

Have you contacting Norton to see if these are known problems?

I use an external USB drive as backup for XP. I have tested it live to
restore both my drives onto new drives. No need to re-activate. I use Drive
Image 7 but guess the Ghost would do a similar job. The only problem I found
that when restoring the boot drive it was also necessary to restore the
system drive for a successful boot. I can live with that minor quirk.

> I should have mentioned that I back up both C and D drives, about 12GB,
which takes approx 30mins with verification running. However the time taken
is not really relevant as one can continue with normal working while the
backup is taking place. The whole process runs from within windows. There is
quite a high load on the processor so gaming is out during backups!!
The restore operation is booted from the Drive Image 7 cd and took about
20mins when I tested it. While the restore was running it was time for a
coffee break as the computer was obviously not available till the process
had finished.
There are no issues with System Restore. It works just fine.
