View Full Version : shared printer in windows server 2000 supporting xp clients
I have a windows 2000 server system that is connected to a
printer. I wish to share the printer with Windows XP
clients on my workgroup. I cannot find a way to load the
XP driver on the server for an hp laser 1200. Any thoughts?

See http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/AddDrivertoOldOS.htm
or, if that doesn't work,

Note that the "XP" drivers are actually "Windows 2000 and XP" drivers, so
another solution may be to "upgrade" the drivers on the Windows 2000 print
server to the newer ("Version 3") ones. This may stop other client
computers from using the printer, so may not be a good option if there are
many other computers involved, particularly if some of them are NT 4. If
the other clients are Windows 2000, deleting and re-adding the printer on
the clients after upgrading the printer drivers will usually be sufficient.
Many so called "Windows 2000" drivers are actually "Version 2" which are
Windows NT 4 drivers, which are also supported by Windows 2000, but not
usually by XP.

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
