I'm trying to install the USB driver for a new
camcorder. After the "finish" prompt of installation I
get:

lkernel.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x772200e4" referenced memory
at "0x00169498." The memory cold not be "read."
Click on OK to terminate the program.

What do I need to do to get the driver installed?

Have you checked to make sure it is compatible with XP?

It is. XP is the recommended os. Plus, it's a brand new
model of camcorder; so I wouldn't think it's an old
version of the driver.

Drivers change rapidly, you might want to check the device manufacturer's
web site for updates. If that doesn't resolve it, I'd contact their tech
support.

It's not unusual to have to update most of the drivers on a computer the day
you get it. There's no way of knowing how long a device as been on the
shelf or in the supply stream so a driver you receive with a device on the
day you buy it may well be dated by that date.
