I currently have a WIN 98SE operating system and am
considering upgrading to WIN XP Home Edition Upgrade.

I have the following CDs:
1. OEM version of WIN 95
2. WIN 98 upgrade with its product key #
3. WIN 98 SE upgrade with its product key #

Will any or all of these CDs qualify me to purchase the
WIN XP Home Edition Upgrade?

I suspect my present computer has some corruption in its
software. I would like to change to pin connections on my
present C drive to convert it from master to slave.
Install a new C hard drive (as a master)and install the
WIN XP Home Edition Upgrade on this new drive. Will this
approch work?

Does the WIN XP Home Edition Upgrade contain all of the
WIN XP software, and just require reference to WIN 98 SE
CD or program on the now slave D drive to qualify the
upgrade status; or does it actually use some of the WIN 98
SE software?

All will qualify and you don't have to have any of them install to do a
clean install.

The original W95 disk qualifies, but you cannot do a upgrade
from W95. If you currently have W98 on the computer you can
do an upgrade install. To do a clean install you'll need to
use the W95 CD to show the install program you do have a
previous copy.

But as was said, if your computer dates back to the
1995-1998 time frame it may not be hardware compatible.
$500 today buys more than $5000 did back in the old days,
and if you buy a nice new computer you'll get a lot of RAM,
a big hard drive, a warranty, customer service and still
have a back-up computer for the kids and guests.
