Alternate Way to Find Product ID?

Attempted to upgrade to Windows XP (Home) from Win98 but
apparently XP does not recognize my video adapter and I
get no display on boot up (digital flat screen monitor).

I'm trying to use online customer support, but I can't
get anywhere without the PID...but of course, I can't see
the screen to get the PID. Any ideas?

Ola,

In Windows XP, the product key is no longer available as Clear text in
registry. you need a software to view the key:

Retrieve your XP CD key
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ViewKeyXP.htm

This utility works for retail versions:
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/ViewKeyXP.exe

Ramesh - Ola is not talking about the Product Key.

He is talking about the Product ID number which appears on the General tab
of the System applet in Control Panel/My Computer Properties.
It is required by some of our online support systems as we can use it to
accurately identify the product e.g. Windows XP Professional or Home and
also tell if it is an OEM or Retail or Volume Licensed version etc.

It is only viewable once an install is complete.

Ola,

Since this is an install issue and you will not yet have a product ID - just
ring Microsoft Product Support.
Your product may come with some free setup support incidents.
go to support.microsoft.com and check out the support options for your
product.

All of this assumes you are using a Retail copy of Windows XP. If you are
using an OEM copy then you must contact the supplier for support.
