K...if I understand this correct, when you said that you
get a blank reading, it's because you have rebooted the
system while the CD is in the tray. And get a blank
reading when you insert a CD after reboot.
Sounds like you don't have the right drivers for your CD
& DVD Drives. Going through Windows Update might help
you, but if it fails, then go to the manufacturer's web
site and get the latest drivers from them.
If it is a progressive problem where one by one your
drives are failing, then you might have a more serious
problem. I would like to say that you have the same
problem on your floppy drive, but floppies have been
around for so long that it's quite difficult to make them
fail with wrong drivers.
From your error message on the floppies, let me just ask
this, were your floppies preformatted when you bought
them? Almost all floppies come now preformatted, but you
can still find the without format.
