I recently acquired a computer and had to install a new
harddrive in it. After it was configured, I set out
install XP. It downloaded the software to my harddrive,
but when it went to launch the OS, it came back with an
error message, stating that XP could not run because a
file was missing or corrupt. It requested that I reinstall
that particular path, <windows root>\system32\hal.dll.

Can anyone instruct me on how to reinstall this path?

Thank you.

Thomas
