View Full Version : XP -- Blue Screens of Death caused by Internet Connection

I have been getting regular blue screens of death. After a lot of trial and
error, I realized that I get the blue screen when my computer loses contact
with the Internet (either a flicker in the signal or complete loss of signal
from my cable modem). My cable provider says that this is a well-known XP
problem -- he says if you have installed non-xp software, it causes a driver
conflict that causes the computer to crash when it loses contact with the
Internet. Dell was even less helpful -- they told me to wipe my computer
clean and just keep trying. This is VERY frustrating, and my wife is about
to shoot me for spending all that money on a new computer that works so
badly. Can someone help me??? Is Time Warner (cable provider) lying -- is
there a problem with them and/or their modem? Help!!!

Well yes and no. It's like they said "heart attacks are caused by eating
junk food. Have you eaten any junk food sir?"

Perhaps you could run Microsofts Upgrade advisor to try and track down the
bit of old S/W that needs upgrading?

I'm not 100% sure this works if you already have XP installed.

Just an idea.
