I forgot my password and it expired. I can't get passed the screen that
asks you to change the password. Actually, I did enter the password
but it wouldn't accept it. How do I get passed thatscreen so I can turn
off passwords. This is not a network computer

Try to log in as "Administrator" with a "blank" password (i.e. leave the
password box alone)

a) Xp Home
On Startup, press F8 immediately after the POST (Power On Self Test) to
boot into Safe Mode

b) Xp Professional
(If you get the Welcome Screen, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice!!)

If you successfully log in as Administrator, change the password of your own
account and WRITE it down and store it in a safe place.
Set the Administrator password (don't leave it blank), and write that down
also.

(If the PC is new, and came with Xp pre-installed, contact the manufacturer
to ask what Administrator password (if any) they assigned.)

Hope this helps!

Hi,

Be aware that doing it this way could be a problem, read:

EFS, Credentials, Private Keys Unavailable After Password Reset [Q290260]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290260

Rather than reset it, try changing the expiration period if you are able to
log into Safe mode. From MVP Mark Ferguson:

Enter safe mode, and use the default administrator account.

At the command prompt, Type

"net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited" (without the quotes)
