View Full Version : Sharing an XP Printer with Windows 2000 users

I have a new desktop computer that has an HP Deskjet 722C
attached to it and running Windows XP Pro. I also use a
Netgear wireless router to access the internet (cable
modem) for all of my PC's, including my laptops that are
running Windows 2000 Pro.

I have tried to set the XP Printer as a shared device to
my Windows 2000 laptops. This does not work. I have
read almost all of the help information that I can find
and have had no luck in getting this to work.

One more note; the XP desktop cannot see the Win2000
laptops as part of the My Network Places, but the Win2000
laptops do see the desktop, but there are no shared
devices shown.

Any help that you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Add the User Name and password of the XP PC to the Windows 2000 PCs.

Back on the XP PC, go to the Control Panel and click on Printers & Faxes.
Look in the Sharing tab. Ensure the printer really is set to be shared and
that the shared name is less than 12 characters/numbers with NO SPACES in
it.

If you have a Security Tab, ensure that you have given the correct
permissions for Everyone to use it.

I don't know how many PCs are on your network, but also remember that XP Pro
has a limit of 10 connections, XP Home just 5.

One more tip, don't mix and match your protocols. Have ALL PCs use TCP/IP.
