I have a old HPDeskJet 820Cxi which worked fine under 98
but since i have upgraded to XP it has never worked
properly.
The problem I experience is that a document will start to
print but it will get about half way and then stop with
the printer data led still flashing.
After the printer has stopped the print manager icon in
the system tray dissapears and the PC thinks the document
has printed out OK.

The only way to get around the problem is to turn the
printer off so it ejects the half printed sheet and try
printing it out again. Usually the printer prints 1 in 3
pages propperly first time.

Has anyone else seen this sort of problem?

Since you kept the printer connected during the upgrade, the drivers have
become corrupted.

Do a complete uninstall and reinstall:

The latest drivers for this discontinued printer are included in XP, so
after the PC reboot, use the Add Printer Wizard to install the printer.
