Disappearing icons in taskbar

For some reason unknown to me, a few of my taskbar icons are not appearing,
including the Power Meter (even though I can go into the control app for
that and select "Always show icon in taskbar"). Does anyone know how to fix
this behavior?

Unfortunately this is a common occurrence in Windows XP. There is no known
fix at this time. There are several workarounds that some folks (not all)
find effective. To see a list of these, search Kelly Theriot's website:
