View Full Version : Fax Console - Receiving faxes

I am making increasing use of Fax Console, now that my
13yr. old free-standing machine has given up the ghost!
No serious problems sending and receiving when system
(Dell 8200) is fully powered up. But what I'd appreciate
learning is whether it is possible to receive faxes when
system is in STANDBY mode. I've been assured this IS
feasible, but test faxes sent to me while Dell was in
standby did NOT get through. -- Your guidance welcomed!!

You cannot receive a fax once you set the machine to STANDBY mode. The
sender will get "No Answer" message. Once you resume the machine and the
sender retries to send, the fax will be received successfully.

Thanks,
Anand

Not true -- at least as a general rule. Many (most?) fax modems/PCs can be set
to "wake on ring." I've set this up on my XPpro Gateway PC. The one thing I
haven't determined is whether a user actually has to be logged on to XP at the
time the PC goes into standy. I know I can receive faxes if a user is logged on
and the PC is then put in standby. I'm not at my XP box now or I'd give you the
settings. Search in XP help for "wake on ring" and if that doesn't help, try
Google or Dell.

Are you using any "wake on ring" capable modem? Which is your modem
make/model?

Thanks,
Anand
