My understanding is that WinXP does not support
bidirectional communication -- without which you cannot
check cartridge levels in your printer. Maybe someone
with more knowledge will address this -- but I spent
HOURS with HP trying to work out all the problems
associated with my HP1220c after I upgraded to XP. Many
of the printer features I had previously enjoyed just
disappeared. HP laid the blame on Microsoft, but I'm not
convinced that's completely accurate. HP did not come
out with a fully functional printer driver for the 1220
w/ XP; the driver that comes w/ XP is not a fully
functional version either.
Now I see that HP has introduced a new wide format
deskjet and I'm hoping they've worked out some/all of
their differences with MSFT...
