I just installed the latest critical security update.
After rebooting, the windows font is all messed up. It's
a wingbats kind of a font, so I can't read any of the
menus, icon names, folders, etc. Any idea how I can
restore it when I can't figure out actions I am taking.

Pat,
You should have available a restore point to yesterday with luck.
Click 'start' click the blue and white disc with the ? symbol.
Click the 5th link down on the right of the panel that appears.
Click the top radio button on the right of the next panel.
Click the right button at the bottom of the panel.
Click the box immediately to the left of the highlighted one in the left
hand sub-panel. (You should be able to work out the calendar even with the
symbols if its affected to choose your own date).
Click the middle button at the bottom right of the main panel.
After that, you're on your own :) - any following 'OK' buttons should be
the only ones with 2 symbols.
I hope.
