I have tried 4 times to install the update--goes very
slowly and then stalls. Virus scan off, firewall off, no
screensaver. I have watched on the task manager, and it
works away until I have 6 bars showing on the install
screen, and then the update.exe disappears and the cpu
usage goes to 0%. And suggestions?

Hi,
Locate the WUTemp folder, open it and delete the contents (click edit/select
all/file/delete). Then try to update again. The WUTemp folder should be on
the root of the drive with the most available space.

I'm having a similar problem. This fix won't install..
I'm always getting back to the screen with the red dot
and white "X" and message No Updates Were Installed...
Security Update for Windows XP (KB824146)... even after
following Rick's instructions.
Any help?
Thank you,
Ludovic
