I have an Okidata Pacemark printer installed on a XP
machine and shared. I installed the printer on a Windows98
machine as a network printer. When I try to output to the
printer from the 98 machine, I get a request for a password
(when installed from the user's logon). Any password I put
in fails. If I install from an admin logon the printer
works (without asking for a password).
What did I miss in installation and where???
thanx

Most likely you didn't miss anything in the "installation".

If you connect from a Windows 9x computer to a Windows NT, 2000 or XP
computer and the username used to logon is not known on the target computer,
you get a prompt for a password for the IPC$ share. There is no way you can
supply a password for this share.

The NT, 2000 or XP computer is actually asking for a username and password,
but the 9x computer misinterprets this as a request for a password.

Make sure that whatever username is used to logon at the Windows 98 computer
exists on the XP computer and has the same password.

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
