Are data backups a thing of the past ? XP has now taken
DOS away, and I can't find that it has a backup utility.
I've been to the local store and can't find a backup
utility, not even from Norton. What do people use now ?

There are hundreds of backup utilities out there including
Norton Ghost. The NT Backup can be put into XP Home
Edition by placing the XP disk in the drive and then
looking for the valueadd\msft\NTBackup folder. But
remember:this only does a backup to your existing hard
drive and will not write to multiple CDs. For that you
need a backup utility like Norton Ghost that does disk
spanning. Good luck.

People use Nero or Roxio to backup to CD's

I have BackupMyPC. It backs up to a CD or any other drive you wish. It has
all the options of most other backup programs. HTH Otto

Frequently recommended here is erunt.zip, a 575K freeware utility.

It's somewhat equivalent to the old scanreg, backs up your registry
and vital files. Saved me once when System Restore failed..
