How do I see the ink levels on the cartridges to see
which needs to be replaced.

You can open the printer and physically inspect them is there is no status
monitor included in your driver package.

However the first thing to check is the printer manufacturer's website to
see if there is a status monitor driver package available for your
particular make and model of printer. Since you don't provide this
information, I cannot check for you.
