I have had sporatic success with lexmark 1020 printer. I
first thought it was mechanical and required a new
printer. However after a lot of patience, the printer
prints slows and print a garbled page with a lot of
erroneous characters. Is there anyone who can help me
with this issue? It may print a few lines, eject the
sheet and then print more line on another page.

Usually seen when the drivers become corrupted. Follow Bruce Sanderson's
instructions at

Since you're dealing with a Lexmar, pay particular attention to the special
section on Lexmark printers.
