My Dimension 4600 (with Windows XP Home) will not re-boot
with the printer USB cable in place. The process begins
(Windows XP screen appears), but then screen goes black,
with only a blinking cursor in upper left corner. As soon
as USB cable is removed from port, re-boot process picks
up and continues normally. It also seems to work if the
printer is connect5ed, but "off". The printer is HP psc
