Whenever I browse for a file, all the files are not in alphabetic order and
I have to right click to alphabetize them, but it is a pain. In Windows
Explorer, they are always alphabetized.
Is there any way I can set it so the files are automatically alphabetized??
Thank You
Kevin

Kevin,
Set one folder's contents the way that you want it to be displayed.
Then click 'tools' in the header bar, then 'folder options', then the 'view'
tab. Click 'apply to all folders', then 'apply' and 'ok'
and that should then apply the setting universally.
(Warning: Note weasely use of the word 'should'. But mostly it works).
Hope this helps

Just a comment on right-clicking for this purpose. It's faster to
click the bar that says name ... type... size. Name will alphabetize,
type sort by extension, and so on.

I have done that but it makes everything details, even control panel, which
I like to keep as icons.
I want it to remember the settings I apply to each folder.
Thanks Anyway.

Kevin,
After you've used the tools/folder options/view/advanced settings to set the
global template, try setting the individual folder to the view you prefer,
then use the header bar File, close (for Control Panel) command to shut the
program, rather than the top right close window 'x' box.
When you re-open, it should be the way you left it, and you can use the 'x'
box again.
Hope this helps

Thanks Chek, that worked for Windows Explorer and now all folders are
details, but when I browse for a file, (like when I click start/run/browse)
to run a program, they are still not alphabetized and I have to right click
to alphabetize so I can find the file.
This is a particular pain when I am editing video because when I add
clips, I have to right click and alphabetize for every clip I add, otherwise
I cant find the file I need.
I used the browse to find a file then I right clicked and alphabetized,
then I closed it using the header bar but next time I browse the same
folder, the files are not alphabetized.
Do you know how to make it so that when I browse for a file they will be
alphabetized. They used to be but for some reason they arent anymore.

One of the icons along the top of the Browse window is for Views. If you
set that to Details, then you will see the Name bar that Maureen is
referring to.
Something else you can try for getting the files alphabetized for all
dialog windows. See the following article:
Items in "Open" and "Save As" Dialog Boxes Sorted Incorrectly
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;229070
It is written for Win98 but the remedy procedure has also been working for
XP users with the same problem.

Thank you Sharon F and everyone else who responed to my post. Sharon F,
your solution worked (the link you sent) and I never knew that there was an
icon in the browse window that let me adjust the properties, Thank You. Now
everything is exactly the way I want it, Thank You. Thank you very much.
I also learned some other useful info from everone elses posts.
Thank You all. Problem solved.
