Yes, I do think Office 2000 would run on Windows Xp.

For any other lurkers:
Any version of Office from Office 97 forward will work with Windows XP. You
should always make sure that you have the latest Service Packs installed on
any software (usually, unless their is a known issue that could cause you
problems) and the advice for Office 97 is that it requires the installation
of a Service Pack (don't recall which one). Since most recent Office SPs
have been heavily security related, it is important to keep up to date and
keep the viruses away.
