I am trying to install my XP upgrade from 98 SE but keep
getting to error messages...

The languages of this installatio of windows differs from
the one you ar einstalling. The option to upgrade is not
available.

And second message,

Setup can not continue because upgrade functionality is
disabled on your copy of windows XP only allows upgrades.

Can someone please help me and let me what I need to do to
get the upgrade to work.

Thanks,
Liz

Hi Liz,

1) You can't do an upgrade with different language versions, clean install
only.

2) You probably have an OEM version, these will normally only do a clean
install. Upgrading is not an option with these.

Basically, your option is to do a clean installation or create a dual boot.
Programs will need to be reinstalled under the new system.

Thanks,

I am a real novice at this (but learning quickly).

You're right, Windows is OEM. Can you give me a hint on
how to do a clean reinstall? Dual boot sounds too
complicated for me.

What do you think?

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
