I would like to download "Windows XP Application
Compatibility Update, October 25, 2001", so I can search
all files for a word or phrase. Where is this fix? cannot
find it anywhere... I already downloaded the Service Pack
1a, it did not fix the problem.
Thanks for any help...

The patch doesn't allow or claim to allow you to read all files. Read =
indexing server documentation and you can search any specified class of =
files.
Basically you graft this to what ever extension you want (this is the =
ansi/unicode text filter - remember if a file doesn't have unicode =
header then it will be treated as ansi, so won't find unicode in exe =
files for instance).
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\PersistentHandler

Thanks for your help. I was mostly interested in
searching common files, especially CSV files. I did more
research on the Web, and found out that I had to
activate "Index files with unknown extensions" in
Properties of Indexing Services. Just downloading the
Service Pack was not enough... For now this will give me
what I need, until I feel confident enough to edit the
registry. Thanks again!
