Can I use my copy of XP Home upgrade on three different
computers? I have three machines all running 98SE and
would like to upgrade all.

you can try but you will only get updates on one...
how to update the others is your real question
you really should get one version for each computer.
license stuff you see.....

No, XP can only be activated on one machine and it must be activated within
30 days of installation or you won't be able to boot into Windows. Hence,
if you install it on more than one machine, it will only activate once and
the other machines will become useless after 30 days as you won't be able to
boot anywhere but Safe Mode and the functionality will be quite limited.

Hi,
Sorry, but no. This is exactly what Product Activation is designed to
prevent. One copy per machine is the way the license reads.

You are just hoping that someone will say yes, so that you will feel better
about stealing software!

we all want to know what business you are in so we can
visit your business and steal product from you.
you are a plumber and i have 2 drains that need clearing.
can i only pay for you doing one drain.? good i-ll get
my checkbook out.
gosh i can take gas out of my truck and use in lawnmover.
but there is no copyright on the gas once it leaves the
refinery....of course i could copy the gas at my own
refinery.
just buy the other s/w ....get rebate if possible and go
on with your life.

No. The rule is quite clear. It's one copy (or one license) for
each computer.
There's nothing new here. This is exactly the same rule that's
been in effect on every version of Windows starting with Windows
3.1. The only thing new with XP is that there's now an
enforcement mechanism.

Greetings --
Does your local grocer let you walk out of the market with three
loaves of bread when you've paid for only one? Can you drive two cars
home if you've paid for only one? Does your local clothier allow you
to leave the shop with two shirts if you've purchased only one? Have
you noticed a trend, yet? Where in the world did you ever get the
absurd idea that software manufacturers would sell their product
licenses any differently?
As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and copyright
laws, if not technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each
computer on which it is installed. The only way in which WinXP
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is that
Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft
mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more
difficult) the sort of multiple installations you're asking about.
