View Full Version : Missing icons after using Maxblast 3

I recently upgraded from a 40 gig HD to a 120 gig HD and I used
Maxblast 3 to copy the original HD to the new HD.
Everything was working great I thought until I tried using Outlook
2000. I got some error message and Outlook wouldn't work. Did some
searches and found the only way to fix it was to reinstall Outlook. I
did and that fixed it.
Now I've noticed that I have the default windows icon for graphic
files like JPEG's and so on. Also, I have the default icon for
programs like MSN Messenger 6.0, Microsoft Money 2003 and Microsoft
Publisher. Is there an easy way to get my icons back for these
programs and files?
My computer is running Windows XP Home.
Thanks,
-Brent

I've been doing some more research on this subject and have found that
all the file types and shortcuts that reverted back to the default
windows xp icon were tying to get the icon information from
"C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{Some funky S/N number}\someprogram.exe.
Maxblast must not have copied these files because of the brackets in
the folder names. Still working on a solution.

Tweakui for XP might help. It is a free download from Microsoft available
here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp Once
installed it is found in the programs menu under Powertoys . Use the Repair
option to rebuild your icons.

I tried that and it didn't help. I should have mentioned it I guess. :)
