I had to reinstall Windows XP. Before starting the
reinstall I copied all of my e-mail message files from
the old Outlook Express to a backup file. I also copied
my address book to a backup file.

After the installation I imported my address book into
the new Outlook Express and that worked fine. When I
tried to import the e-mail message files (over 40) the
import message option did not allow me to choose the
actual files I copied and when I picked the Outlook
Express 6 option it did not find my message files.

Can anyone help me with my problem. I have a lot of
importent mail I need to recover. -- Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Make sure they are not marked read only.

Kelly,

Thanks for the hint, but they are not marked as read only=20
files. My real question is where do I copy the files to=20
since Outlook Express does not give me the option to=20
select the files I want to copy or tell me where they=20
should be copied to.

Make sure that the backed up files are in a folder that does not contain any
other files. When you select the File/Import/Messages option, select the
"Outlook Express 6" option. Click Next, select the "Import mail from an OE6
store directory" option and select the "Only import mail that was downloaded
or created in OE6" option. Click OK and on the next screen you should see a
Browse button, click this and point the dialog to the folder where the
backed up files are located. Follow the instructions from there to complete
the import.
