Hi, Shawn
You may not remember adding anything in the last week but some
viruses/worms won't activate immediately. Symptoms may occur weeks and
months later. These things can be triggered by an action, a date and
various other events.

Some of the viruses, worms and trojans can cause your installed antivirus
program to be ineffective. When you suspect this might be the case,
visiting one of the online scanners is a good option. Here's a list of
several to choose from:

Symantec's online scanner:
http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym

TrendMicro's online scanner:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Kaspersky's Online scanner:
http://www.avp.ru/remoteviruschk.html

Also and because of the variety of shenanigans you have on your system,
suggest that you visit the checker on Jim Eshelman's site:
http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm

This performs a 30-second online screening. If there is spyware, adware, a
hijacker or other freeloader on your system, the odds are close to 100%
that they can be quickly identified here.

AdAware from Lavasoft is one of several good programs that can clean the
system of this category of intruders. Program can be downloaded at
www.lavasoftusa.com After installing this program, go online to update the
..REF file. Then run the the program.

NOTE: There are also things known as "prank programs." These usually do
something silly - like pop open your CD tray or show your display upside
down - but are usually harmless (but annoying) and were installed by a
jokester friend when you weren't looking.

Because of your files disappearing, I don't think a prank program is
involved in your situation and urge you to seriously track down what's
wrong on your system. If you are treading in unknown water, you may want to
seek the assistance of a knowledgeable friend (choose wisely!) or local
assistance (repair shop, for instance).
