When I try and log off of my desktop Windows XP the
computer sticks on saving your personal settings - I do
this when I want to get back to the screen that list the
multiple users for the computer. I now have to turn my
computer off at the power source and reboot to change
users. This problems has just cropped up after I was out
of town for several days and turned my computer off.
What is the problem or where can I get HELP?

Are you sure it is stuck? When I've made a lot of changes in my setup, this
step of the shutdown process can take some extra time to complete. Often
noticeable right after installing updates and/or software.

I,m sure the systems simply locks up when you attempt to
log off. I some times get a blue screen when I shut
Windows down. The hour glass appears and it never
changes. Last night I left the computer on all night and
it didn't close. This has just started!

Any mention in Event Viewer about what the blue screens are for? Wouldn't
hurt to run chkdsk (right click My Computer, Properties, Tools, Error
Checking). If using NTFS, that will clear out old security descriptors that
are hanging around. There's a slight chance that might help.

Also, suggest that you take a look at the shutdown troubleshooting pages
over at Jim Eshelman's site: http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm
