taskbar help

Hi, does anyone know how to clear the past items icons on
the taskbar properties/ i uninstalled software and
although the icon has dissapeared from the taskbar
itself, when i right click the taskbar and try to
customize, the icon is there under past items.

Any replies would be most helpfull
